There is a real buzz in the air about Colnago !

6 Oct
Like many other Colnago Enthusiasts and followers across the world, I was absolutely thrilled to see Colnago back on the world stage of racing – where they belong! Taking into account Colnago’s rich heritage of being involved within professional cycle racing, they have been sadly missed! I personally longed for the day of their return and by god, what a return it was!

2010 has indeed been a fantastic year for the marque. Kicking off the beginning of the year, we see Colnago sponsor CSF Inox  http://www.colnagocsf.com/ who so far have had a great year with Colnago. They have shown themselves to be a good hard working team, taking part within the domestic league and were the youngest team to be offered a wild-card to take part in the 2010 Giro d’Italia . The pinnacle for the team was a win on stage 13 in Cesenatico! The team were riding a mixed fleet of EPS and CX1 frames! However, the Giro d’Italia was where the C59 Italia had its maiden voyage and was the talk of the town!

Also, one of the great highlights of this year was when Colnago sponsored Bbox Bouygues Telecom. No one could of dreamt what kind of year lay ahead for them. The first shot across the bows was a win on stage 20 on the Giro d’ Italia for Johann Tschopp on a Colnago EPS !

Then one of the greatest moments for the B Box team this year was gaining an entry into the 2010 Tour de France! This is where Colnago belongs, for me, it was quite an emotional moment! Ernesto’s boys where on the Tour!

What a tour it was for Bbox Telecom. We see Pierrick Fedrigo beat off the likes of Lance Armstrong to win stage 16 of the TDF. It was an impressive victory and you can really see the pleasure in his face!

Then we see the team Captain and Anchor man Thomas Voeckler the French champion who was part of a ten-man breakaway that escaped in the mid part of the 187.5km stage, he dropped the rest of his companions on the steep slopes of the hors category Port de Bales and maintained a great distance on the descent to take a solo victory! See that C59 go! Thomas has been a great servant for the team! I just love his C59 in French National Champion colours!

Then, the icing on the cake was when anthony chatereau won the TDF King of the Mountain. They must of been celebrating in the streets of Cambiago !

Charteau admitted he was soaking up his eventual win well before the summit. He said,

I knew when Christophe began to struggle early on the climb (to Tourmalet) that my victory was virtually assured  which allowed me to just ride up to the summit savouring my win. It was quite an experience, with all the fans at the roadside  I deliberately rode the final few kilometres by myself so I could take it all in. It was extraordinary. When I came round the final bend, the fans waiting there did a big ‘Ola’ for me. That’s something you don’t get a lot when you’re racing.

So what’s the latest on the team…….well sadly, Bbox Bouygues Telecom are pulling out from team sponsorship and the team’s future was on a knife edge! However, at the final hour, Europcar have stepped in to replace the sponsor. I understand this will be a three year contract with Colnago still supplying the bikes! Thomas Voeckler will be staying with the team!

I would just like to wish them good luck and best wishes!
