Colnago Family

Ernesto Colnago and the Colnago family hosted a pre-Christmas mass at the Italian framebuilder’s Cambiago factory on the final Saturday before Christmas. The mass was led by Don Antonio Mazzi, who is renowned in Italy for his work with drug addicts.

Among those assisting Don Mazzi were Don Gianni Nava, who raced against Beppe Saronni as a junior before taking up holy orders, and Fr William Ortiz, a Colombian priest and former team-mate of Nelson “Cacaito” Rodríguez, one of Colombia’s great climbers of the 1990s.

As well as the Colnago family, the mass was attended by many of the great and good of Italian cycling and sport. One of the guests of honour was Italian cycling legend Fiorenzo Magni, who recently celebrated his 90th birthday, as well as fellow Giro d’Italia winners Saronni, Felice Gimondi, Gianni Motta and Gianni Bugno. Also present were Italian football legend Giovanni Trappatoni, Mapei boss Giorgio Squinzi and RAI sports reporter Marino Bartoletti.

During the mass, Don Mazzi thanked Ernesto Colnago for his support in helping to get a new bike-related project off the ground in Honduras.
