Challenging rides through spectacular scenery, grand fondos are an Italian obsession. The Grand Fondo Colnago series brought this great tradition to the USA, and continues in 2011 with rides in San Diego, Los Angeles, Philadelphia, Washington DC and Miami.

Every Grand Fondo Colnago offers challenging routes with tough climbs and sweeping descents through breathtaking scenery.

There are refreshment, medical and mechanical aid stations along the course. The post-race party will be an occasion to have some fun and savour some authentic “Made in Italy” delights.

The 2011 series kicks off with San Diego’s third Gran Fondo Colnago on April 10. The event will be expanded to accommodate up to 5,000 starters. As with all the series there will be three distances – (160km, 85km or 51km) – to cater for all ability levels as we head into the hills of Southern California.

As in 2010, the series will then cross the Atlantic for the second edition of the Cogolin-Golfe de Saint Tropez Gran Fondo on April 17, which takes place on a spectacular course overlooking the Mediterranean.

Colnago return to the USA and to California for the next round. A stunning route is being planned out for the inaugural Los Angeles Gran Fondo in June. After a highly successful first experience of the Gran Fondo Colnago, Philadelphia will be hosting its second Gran Fondo in August (final date to be confirmed).

The series then gets back to its roots in September with the original Grand Fondo Colnago in Piacenza, Northern Italy, an unforgettable ride over the famous hills of Colli Piacentini.

Two new events have been added late in the year. In September, Washingon DC will host its first Gran Fondo Colnago. The series will conclude with the first edition of the Gran Fondo Colnago Miami in November.
