Classic Thomas Voeckler – Stage 9 – Tour de France 2011

10 Jul

Well, what a day! A great finish for Thomas Voeckler on Stage 9 of the Tour de France 2011. Thomas has been testing the water during the first week of the Tour and today finally pulled off. You can’t help buy admire this gutsy rider from Team Europcar. A rider that has given his all and is not fazed buy some of the big names in the peloton. All week he’s been looking for an opportunity and very nearly suceeded on stage 5. However, not put off, he dug deep today and put in a massive performance to gain the essential time needed for the yellow jersey. If you were like me, I was totally gripped by todays stage and was on the edge of my seat. Again, after all the conversations and talk about the high percentage of crashes on this year’s tour, we see a press car hit Juan Antonio Flecha knocking him to the ground, this also caused Johnny Hoogerland to go flying off the road into a barbed wire fence, all their hard efforts completely destroyed, very sad!

Thomas just loves these kind of break-aways and was completely in his element as he drove the break-away pack on. It was also quite an emotional moment for him, as its been seven years since he last put on a yellow jersey in 2004. The darling of the French public has once again stepped up to the mark and has shown what he is capable of doing. What a great first week for Thomas and what a great start for Europcar!
